ideas on place to moose or elk hunt

Maine also has some nice moose hunting if you are lucky enough to draw a tag. Drawing a tag up here is like winning the lottery though. Like others have said sometimes seeing one when you want to can prove difficult. here is a pic of a couple of bulls having it out.

Hey guys here is some info for ya. I am from Northern Ontario and there is a lot of moose here , the problem is getting a tag . Everybody has a chance at a calf but there much more difficult to get . My sister had a tag this year and I was at camp for 10 days before she got there . When she finnaly got there we left in the morning and my dad and her dropped me off at my spot on the way to theirs and it took all of 8 minutes and it was over .
If you have a good spot to hunt elk or mule deer you should consider swaping hunts. Your chances of harvesting or much greater with a local hunter than an outfiter . Their #1 concern is money not you , they can and will replace you if you do not return to their establishment. They do not scout , cut trail, thier to busy at shows and net trying to get business.

I thought I'd add my 2 cents here. If you want a moose I'd highly recommend Patey and Sons

I hunted there in 2005. They boast a 96% successrate. I will admit that not all moose have nice racks. I doo believe that the success rates they post are accurate, although many racks are unimpressive.
This outfit offers a couple trophy camps that cost an additional $1000. These are in areas that haven't had much pressure in many years. My bull was not from a trophy camp, by the way.
I can tell you that the guides will do everything possible to put you on a moose. I saw many hunters ( approx. 12-15) at the main lodge and everyone got a moose.
I'll also admit that Newfoundland hunts are known to be mostly meat hunts. Meaning that most guys go there to fill their freezer rather than hunt for a huge rack.
I'm not sure who you hunted with there before but I can tell you that Patey and Sons offers a top notch outfit.

I have posted this outfitter many times before but I can't give anything but an A plus rating to them for the job they do and the value. Snowshoe lake Hunting and Fishing out of Millertown NewFoundland is tops in my book. I have been there 3 times in 5 years with 100% success and always saw lots of game. It is located about in the center of the Island and is loaded with great caribou and moose. I always hunted caribou but others in camp were after moose and the success rate is very high. I think if you check them out you will find their rates are real competitive with any other place and take it from me the food and guides are first rate.
Email at [email protected] but book early because it is mostly repeat business and is always filled.

Hi Tyler15,
I knew what you meant. You want a place that you have a opportunity. We are Outfitters in B.C. Canada. we don't sell Moose, we sell opportunities. There are some really good Outfitters in B.C. with good possibilities on Trophies...We have them from Shiras to Canadian to the Alaskan Yukon or actually Border Bulls.Prices range from $3500-$9000. The key is getting the Outfitters prime dates...Once those prime rut dates are gone , Outfitters continue to book, but odds go down. There is really only 2 weeks of hard rut or as I call it Stupid rut.The rut can continue before and after but you need to be in that 2 weeks...I have seen bothsides..Outfitters that lie and hunters that lie about their physical abilites, shooting abilitesand experience.Generally a good Outfitter will feel the pressure without any help from the client. And the client will sence the effort or not...hope this helps...www.bcguideoutfitters.com

That's exactly what I mean. Everyone wishes and will try to bag the game. Most hunters will find fresh signs, some will see but only a few will be lucky enough to shoot the animal.

Stubblejumper you are correct, although those Northern BC Outfitters had a hard time this fall. The Moose got hit hard last winter with a huge impact on both Moose and Elk in some regions up North. Places that are 95% on 6 point Elk were not 95 % this year. With the US dollar going down they are now at $8950. for Elk alone..my fear is there will be a price point that some won't pay. These spots are fair chase and have loads of game. Normally we will have multiple opportunities on Bull Elk and Moose every hunt. Some days we will call in 5-10 Bulls a day !

Yes the Peace country suffered a terrible winterkill,in both B.C. and Alberta.I was referring to the Prophet Muskwa area. However,I have no idea what kind of winter they had there.

Unfortunatly the boys got hit a bit there too. In talking to a the big players there, they said in the end they killed the same..but worked harder and down on the multiple opportunities..sheep was just young ones.....But thats nature.
