This seems to be a great place to gather some good info...

Don't know if anyone ever comes to Southern Cal. for Tuna fishing, but if you're thinking about it I'll be happy give you the lowdown as best I can (seasons, good boats, gear - that type of thing.)

As for hunting, I hunt elk in Wyoming (when I can draw a tag), and I'm pretty good at filling out the paperwork for antelope, but not too good at drawing a tag. Maybe this year.

I'd like to do some pig hunting here in CA. up by Paso Robles. Got a cabin on Lake Naciamento to base out of, but I don't know where to go. I'm thinking I'll have to get a guide since there is not much public land up there.

Anyway, thanks for all the good info...
Chuck.

Hey Tuna! Welcome aboard.

Glad to see someone with sealegs around here. Not to many mariners on this board, just a few of us. Too bad were on oppisite coast. I'd love to do a longrange with ya.
Hope you find us interesting and feel free to jump in whenever you feel like it. These mountaineers always putting down us charter captains. Glad I got some backup now.
There's a few guys that can help you get that 'lope tag 'round here. Get to know a couple, hell they'll bend over backwards for you.

Good Luck. Capt Brad.

Welcome aboard Tunahunter! Glad to have you here. I never cared much for the water, especially the deep seas, but have gone on some halibut and salmon trips before in the ocean. I was born and raised inland, and like my feet on the ground. My stomach likes them there as well! <img src=icon_smile_dead.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_dead.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_dead.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

I'll be moving down to Las Vegas for a couple of years come summer, so I might hit you up on some info for good tuna charters in and around south Cali. I don't care for the water, but for as good of a fight as I hear them tuna put up, I'd be willing to head out for a day.

Talk to some of our Montana folks about pronghorns, hopefully they can get you set up right.

Welcome to the board Tuna. Lots of good people here with
plenty of good info. Did you ever get an elk in Wy? I
hunted there once. Missed a dandy and had to eat my tag.

Thanks for the welcome guys. I've been looking for a good hunting forum for quite a while. No one at my work hunts, and although they're interested in the pictures and the meat I bring in, they really don't have a clue what it's all about.

Capt. Brad, you got your own operation out there? What do you fish for? Those big BFT's? Man, I love to do that someday.

ArcticBowMan, El Nino this year, should be great Tuna fishing all summer long. I've already got a 4 day trip out San Diego set up for August, and a couple 2.5 day trips in June and sept. Let me know when you're ready to go.

And stickerpt, I've drawn two Wyoming tags and gotten two bulls. First was a spike 3 years ago, and this past fall I got a 5x5 raghorn.
I hunt with my wife's cousin who grew up in the Alpine area. I'm especially proud of the 5x5 as there were not many elk being checked in, in fact I got the only elk that either of us saw over a weeks hard hunting. And I did it right...I went into the thick stuff very slowly (got lucky, it started raining), kept my intensity up for 4 hours or so and finally spotted him. Good memories....
Sending in my Wyoming App. tomorrow.

Welcome to the board Tunahunter!! Always good to see a new face with new info!!

I spent mant tears in th SanDiego and Long Beach area, left there in 1989. As a child I went on several charter fishing trips to catch whatever was the catch of the day. My biggie was a sand shark, which I gave away, then someone told me they were good eating, so I asked for it back....lol He did, with no problems, and directions on how to clean and cook it. Have eaten shark ever since. Never did hunt when I was out there, What a dummy I was..<img src=icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle>

My children are still out there, so ya never know, we may just meet up some day..

The best of luck in all your hunting endeavors!!!

God Bless,
Dave

The area I put in for has about a 36% chance for Non Res., but I just can't seem to get lucky. Not much luck with a deer tag either...

TH'
I gave the charter biz up when we had kids about 5 yrs back.
However, my old boss was offered a full time job on another boat, so he's selling his. He wants me to buy it, but I aint comfortable being under a $4000 a month note.
But he does want me to run it for this year. I want to, but I'll have to be gone from home from Mid-May til Mid-Oct. Not sure about that. I mentioned it to the war dept, and she wasn't exactly excited about it either.
Still tossin' it around though.

Yes we catch BFT's. Also YFT's, White Marlin, Blue Marlin, Mako's, lots of Dolphin.

My biggest BFT was 480# in '98. The average would be 100-200#.

If you find yourself over here, let me know and I can arrange something. I'll e-mail you something also.

Good Luck. Capt Brad.

Tuna, it will probably be 2004 before I'm able to make a trip like that. I'd love to bring the wife and kid down and take them out as well. The wife and I did a halibut charter out of Seward, AK a couple years back while she was pregnant. Of course she hooked into a good size one, and couldn't put the belly belt on, so I brought it up for her. I could only imagine what that fight would of been if it hadn't come up like it was plywood in a windstorm.

When I saw you first put BFT I thought you meant Big F Tuna. Now I remember they call them blue fin and yellow fins. DOH!

June of 2004 might be a probable date of being able to head to the coast for some fishing. Is that around the better times to head out?
