Shipping meat by commercial means?

I have two back to back elk hunts (about 5 days apart), one is in New Mexico and the other is in Colorado. What have you done to ship your gamemeat and what were your experiences?

I paid a meat processer in NM to cut, package, freeze and ship mine to NC. I had it shipped overnight, which is expensive, but could have done 2nd day as it was still hard as a brick 24 hours later.

UPS was the delivery.

Deerhuntress56,

If you don't mind me asking about how much did it cost to ship to North Cackalacky?

Had a friend shoot an elk several years back. Got it on the day before we went home. I had got mine a few days before and was froze solid. His was not. The air service wouldn't let him ship his back.

He took and had it sent back UPS next day air. If I remember correctly the weight was 210 pounds of elk and the priceI remember was for sure$733.00. Ouch....

By the way it was froze solid enough not to leak but was not rock solid froze. So they didn't charge him extra that was the fee at the time.

Hunt was in Washington and meat was sent to Kansas.......

Goatslayer thanks...

I sure thought there would be more hunters shipping their game home, but from the lack of replies this is a mistaken belief.
