What grain bullet

What grain bullet would you use out of 30-06 for big 500lb black bears and where is the best shot? Thanks

There's some 220gr. Core-Lokts out there. Those would be nice, but I've heard some '06s don't shoot the 220s well. In that case, a good bonded 180gr will work as well. The best shot placement is the same as it is with any other big game animal - broadside or quartering away.

yeah i would say a 180 or 200 should work fine for you.

180gr Supreme Elite XP3 or Supreme AccuBond both from Win. should work provided you hit the engine room.

180 gr core-lokt sp round nose are Deadly and as mentioned the winchester xp3 are good. I also like the winchester fail safes. Just remember a bears vitals are a little further forward then a deers vitals.

Nosler partition, Barnes TSX, etc in 180gr will work nicely. I prefer both shoulders on bears with a gun in my hands, as mentioned the vitals are forward and protected by larger shoulder blades then deer type game have. Though to describe the perfect shot via key board it would be the 1/4 away. Simply draw a line to opposite leg and fire right thru, this will ensure vitals anda busted wing. Even for the largest of blackieboars,it will spella quick/humane harvest.

Best of Luck:)

Agee with some of these guys above. The 180gr fail safe ammo will go deep with a lot of power, even at 300 yds.

Yep, 180gr will give you everything you need as long as the shot is well placed. This is the crucial part. Know you ammo, your bullet drop and all will be good. About any of the high end hunting ammo will provide good expansion and terminal ballistics as long as you hit the engine room. Guns seem to warm to certain ammo so get out and shoot whatever you choose and find the right combo.

165 or 180 nosler or Barnes X TS.. They are really thin skinned animals just alot of fat. If an arrow does it with ease I wouldn't worry about shooting the "biggest" bullet.. I would worry more about shot placement and accuracy.
