Alaska black bear hunt info

Anyone living in Alaska or been there to hunt black bear? I'm going to Fairbanks in mid july to visit my cousin and help him work on his new house. I had this crazy thought that maybe imight try to bear hunt.
I tried looking-up info on the Alaska game and fish web site. Maybe i'm
crazy but it looked like black bear season was open all year long. Is this correct? Thomas says people are pretty protective of their bait stations up there(don't blame them a bit)so it probably wont happen, but he said a friend might let me tag along just for the adventure(plenty good for me). Also gonna do some fishing. This will be my first trip to Alaska so I don't know a lot about it( taking crash corse). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx in advance. Kevin

There are several areas open year round up here. 16B where I live is I'm not sure but I think it is also year round in Fairbanks.
You can find the current regs here: STATE OF ALASKA

Thanks for the info guys, I've been doing some research on the"state of
alaska" web site, still looking through all the regs. AKCHUCK, do you hunt
bear? What are their coats like in mid july? Do you have any recommendations on can't mis things to see or do while visiting alaska, not too far from fairbanks area. THanks again.

I live on a remote homestead land this unit doesn't have much of a moose population but we do have a big black bear population. We eat a lot of black bear meat, I also spend the fall guiding brownie hunters an a few black bear hunters. I haven't been to the Fairbanks area for over 20 years so I'm not sure what is up there hunt or what sites there are to see. I'll see if I can find out anything for you.

If your trophy hunting for a hide, July is not the month to be doing it, they are completely rubbed at that time. You need early spring (before June) or late fall (after Sept.) for a good hide. I personally wouldn't shoot a bear in July but some do for meat.

I appreciate the feedback. Sorry for not replying promptly but I've been in Gulf Shores Alabama for a week and missed your replys. If the bear's coats aren't real good right now I'll probably pass then. Not that thats the only reason I would be hunting them, because I would try to use some meat. I've never fixed or tasted bear meat. I've heard some like it
and some don't. I do hope to do some fishing though. My cousin says
the silvers are running and there should be some good greyling fishing.
I'm guessing on the spelling of greyling, forgive me if it is incorrect. Just
being there and seeing some of alaska will be great. Any suggestions on
lure selection.

I think it's spelled grayling, not greyling.

Non-residents have to have a guide for grizzly/brown bear, mt. goat, and dall sheep. How ever if they have family living in alaska that are first kindred borther, sister, son, daughter, ect that resident may take them.
