Sports Afield

I pick up a copy of Sports Afield when I see them, as I enjoy reading it. Anyone else a regular Sports Afield reader?

I can't say I'm regular, but I did enjoy reading what I did, pretty exotic stuff, kinda' neat, though. Something about a guy shooting a bear in the Kamchatka Penninsula with a 460 Weatherby 4 times, before it finally started to slow down, and all of the shots were shoulder shots, pretty crazy stuff, makes me happy I'm a more simple Deer and Turkey hunter.

Don't do much withhunting rags; however, IMOSports Afield is the best of the lot, mostly hunters who are really stretching their horizons....

Sports Afieldis the only one I know of that doesn't go thru the endlesscycle of: deer, deer, deer, something modestly different, deer, deer, deer, something modestly different, deer, deer, deer, etc, etc. [:'(]

To me, Sports Afield is usually worth a skim at the grocery store.

On the other hand, if you're into bambi poppin' thenyou'll probably prefer one of the typical "endless cycle" rags.

Back in the day I was a regular reader, in the 1970's. When they went to all bicycles I quit reading it. Have not and will not return. I read only Outdoor Life and Eastman's Hunting now for hunting stuff. Now that Outdoor Life is owned by the Swedes I couldnt be happier with it.

Eastmans is worth every penny. All the others are hit and miss but I usually read Eastmans cover to cover and even enjoy the product reviews that ae basically ads in most mags but in Eastmans sound like they actually tested the items rather than typed in the press release from the vendor.

I also tend to like Kings Hunting, Hunting the West and Successful Hunter. Eastmans is top of the game, though.

Yep, I read Sports Afield and Outdoor Life, along with NRA's "American Hunter". They each have some good articles most issues. I like to read real stories of the real hunters and not just talk for the sake of talk.

I used to subscribe until they went to the tree hugger bikin rag deal. Then they later changed back to hunting but alot of it seems to be either african and/or non american game animals and then they profile hunts that are out of my reach financially so I lost interest. Nothing wrong with those hunts but I'm just more interested in elk, turkey, and deer. I like Hunting Illustrated and Eastman's Journal as well.

Sports Afield did a bikini issue? What the heck? That's a load of crap, it's like Sports Illustrated having the Swimsuit issue, I mean, exactly what do Swimsuits have to do with Sports?

I think you sorta' summed it up for me at the end of your post, nothing wrong with the articles, but nothing I can relate to, and doubtfully, ever will, the max I expect to go will be Elk and Moosem and some Alaskan game, would be surprised if I ever go to Africa, don't honestly think I'd be interested.
