BEST BIG GAME (w/ Fangs) RIFLE

In your opinion, what is the best all-round Big Game Rifle? Why?

If you were only to have ONE rifle, used to hunt whitetail, mulies, elk & moose AND

You lived in an area where the game can bite back (Grizzlies, Cougar,...)

I'd rather be out there! >>> http://community.webshots.com/user/mtboys

300RUM.....bite back too! Grizzly's I'd want something with umf, flat and fast. I thought maybe the 338, but I think the 300RUM would be up to the task and offer you bullet choice to change with the game.

I forgot to tell you why the 338 is good. Any 338 bullet is made for killing big game not varmints and the jacket is correspondingly heavier than it would be in the smaller calibers. Next time your in the local sporting goods store pick up a 338 bullet and place it in one hand and place a 30 caliber bullet in the other and then tell me which one you would prefer to hit something with. Recoil is stiff but certainly not to the point where an average hunter with a little practice could not master it anything bigger requires substantially more practice time . If you don't have the time to master a 300 um you have to invest in a muzzle brake which is no option for me. With lightweight bullets it shoots plenty flat for anything and you can use those same bullets on Elk...Moose. If I am walking around in Grizzly country I sure feel more comfortable carrying that then any 300 magnum.

Either the 300RUM or the 338. both can be loaded down for Deer or up for big stuff. 338 with 185 Barnes X bullets for deer and the 225 for Elk or Moose or the 250 for Griz

Never pass up a shot!

Thanks guys, that confirms what I was thinking...300 or 338 MAG. as they are both flat as anything...shooting over 3000 fps when you load them down.... they carry some serious energy all the way down the line (stomping the 7mag) AND the big rocks they throw give me some grizz stopping comfort I saw 4 this spring while hunting blackies...

As for the recoil, they both kick like girls compared to the 12 guage shooting big slugs...
