RE: Brown Bear outfitter

i guess one other suggestion comes to mind, check with outfitters who hunt in the south east part of the state. i researched this a couple years back and found their prices to be much cheaper than the peninsula an kodiak, but their bears dont normally get as big.

You are right about that. Plus...the bears in the south east portion get "rubbed" more...why? i don't know. But, the black bears that I have seen from S.E. Alaska are badly rubbed up.

They come out earlier, into warmer weather and have better stuff to rub on. PWS/Cordova area may be a cheaper option too.

I have an outfitter in Alaska that has a Prince William Sound brown bear hunt for $6,000. with a $6,000. trophy fee. Even though he does not strickly do brown bear hunts , he has a 10 day 1x1 trophy black bear hunt with a potential for brown bear. He only does 2 of these hunts a year and they have been filled but if you would like to hunt 2008 its available.

He does also have Artic Refugegrizzly hunts are just $11,500 with no trophy fees.

Here is a great guy that guides 1x1 on Kodiak. I know him personally and he will treat you right and get you a huge Brownie. His name is Mark Wagner his e-mail is: [email protected] Shoot him an e-mail and he will be willing to work with you. He had a client that shot a booner and they did a big article in the Boone & Crocket record book about Mark and the client. Be sure to mention Brett Hyde.

Here is what he wrote me when I asked him:
I'm going to be doing one or two brown bear hunts on the Alaska
Peninsula
(GMU 9E) in May of '08. This is the same area that I've been
successful
in the past few years. This area is only open every other spring, and
every other fall. Brown bear hunts aren't cheap though. The cost of a
1x1 hunt is $13,500.

Hey Broad:
Check out Renfro's Alaskan Adventures. Last I heard they were 10,500 but planning a price hike. Tons of 8 foot plus bears and a few over 9. Weather cut my hunt to 2 days and I got a great 8'2" beauty. We had a 9 foot plus in camp the first day but just had the wife's caribou gun unpacked. Not smart to go after a 9 foot brownie with a 270 even if he is only 30 yards away. We had 2 in camp in two days. The guys in the next camp saw 18 bears in 6 days. He killed a very nice booner.
