I just use the aerial view onwww.googlemaps.com and www.mapquest.com

Does google earth give any additional detail than googlemaps does?

Yes I use it quite a bit. I enter my GPS data and I can map where I was.

RE: GooGle Earth

I downloaded it and it does have some neat features. On my land the topographical part is pretty much worthless though. On the tallest hill on my property the elevation per my GPS is 2,178' and per www.topozone.com it is 2,180' and per google earth it is 2,125' for an elevation change of 10' when in fact the elevation change is over 60'.

The resolution actually is the same as googlemaps.com. You can zoom in closer but it gets blurry. The one feature that is really nice is the ruler. I was measuring how big my pond was when the satelitte picture was taken and how far in yards is is from one spot to the next thinking about setting up shooting lanes, etc.

Just the ruler part was worth the download.

Thanks, Nathan

I use it a LOT, but mine wont focus good in closer than 30,000'. I guess I need to pay for a version to get good close views.

I don't think so. I think some of the wilderness areas just don't have very good detail. Cities and towns go to max detail. Remote wilderness areas don't have near the detail.

I use GE to scout potential hunting areas almost daily. Very nice program.

RE: GooGle Earth

i just downloaded it the other day, and it seems to work pretty good, but i was trying to look at the little town where the wife is from and it wont show nothing, when you try and zoom in it is just blurry as hell, but yet if i go to the city where we live it comes in clear, is this how it is when you try to look at a very small town, and only the bigger cities come in nice and clear?
