colorado elk unit 36
 
im going to be hunting unit 36 from sept 13-23....anybody ever been there.....my friends have been the last 10 years or so...they say its ok-good....was looking for a different perspective...thanks....

I've hunted up there for 3 of the last 4 years. Lot's of elk and people.
You can definately get into them if you look in the right spot.

Do you have a specific spot in mind? How far are you willing to walk? You'll a lot more animals if you are willing to walk at least a mile.

oh im willing to walk...dont have a problem with that.....im not sure where we set up camp( friends of mine have been up there camping in the same spot for years now)...ill find out where and let you know......thanks.........

I bowhunted 37 before Elkatraz in 2005. Them areas are great. Scenic with lots of game.

unit 36 my dad hunted there for 20 years and i was with him some times it is a nice unit i would reccomend going up to a high elevation my dad shot a 6x6 bullin this unit on public landya let usknow were you aregoing in that unit.

I hunted 36 for a number of years and really got to know the country and the elk. The problem I ran into is the number of hunters and inexperienced hunters going into the elk's bedding areas and blowing them out of the area. We use to see 100-200 elk every season and could get into them almost every day but things have changed due to all of the pressure.

does anyone know it’s still the same in 2019

Ran it a couple of times with buddies, but never with a tag of my own. Lots of 2-legged pressure as others have mentioned.
