The guy did an awesome job. I can't get over the detail in the eyes and the nose. It takes a little longer than some, but I don't mind the job and the price. Heck, I waited my whole life to shoot this deer, what is a couple of extra months to get the mount back.

Great looking buck!

That an Idaho buck???

Elkcrazy8 01-21-2007 06:59 PM

RE: Mule deer mount has entered the building!!!

It is an Idaho buck and was on a controlled hunt. I spotted this buck from about 2 miles away. I could only pick out an object skylined and then it moved down the side of the mountain. The way that it was working, I felt that it was a buck. My partner and I made out some landmarks to go by and moved in on the object. When we got to the exact spot that we had seen the deer moving from far away, a bunch of does began to work out of the base of the canyon with this guy coming out in tow.

Elkcrazy that is a beautiful mount and a great deer. I have the same philosophy about taxidermists that you do, a couple of extra months in irrelevant in the long run so long as they do a good job that you will be happy with for the rest of your life. My dad is waiting to get his muley back next month and I am waiting on a whitetail. The only muley I could have shot this year would have scored about 12" :)(tiny forky) but it was still a fun hunt. Congratulations to you and enojy looking at that beauty.

Thanks guys, I really like the way the taxidermist did the ears. The buck has that look like it just heard something and is checking it out.

Nice one Elkcrazy,

I'm in my three year waiting cycle for my next chance at a big one. I was fifteen yards from the biggest non-typical mulie I'd ever seen, tag in my pocket and a client that had a archery elk tag and no deer tag. Laying back to us and just down the hill. Man oh man did I drool. In colorado you can't hunt while guiding hunters which is a good policy. You could hunt alot of days waiting for a setup on something like that. But I get to keep the memories.

Hi Elk... That is a nice looking buck you got! What part of ID you from? I am from the Boise area (Eagle).

Not to be nosey... but was always curious about what it would be for a mount? Deer, elk... etc.

Again, nice buck!

Elk-
Very nice mulie indeed!!! It really sweet to put it all together and finally see your prize emerge; the rest is up to you and from the looks of it, you did a class A job!
Congratulations!!!

RE: Mule deer mount has entered the building!!!

The buck is 27 inches wide, I paid 425 for the mount, The buck is actually next to the fire place with a big buck on the other side also. I have the same guy doing my antelope from this last year and it should be done by the end of the year. he is the master of bear rugs. I had one done from 2 years ago that is absolutly awesome. If anyone in the Boise area is looking for a taxidermist, his name is Rick Mason and is in the phonebook.... Thanks all for the kind words.....

The buck is 27 inches wide

He looks bigger than that but still a great deer. I've always assumed the ears are 21" wide, and he looks 4" + on both sides, that's how I got to 29".
