Buffalo Hunt in Texas?

Has anybody ever hunted Buffalo in Texas? If so, where did you hunt and what was the hunt like. Some say hunting buffalo is like shooting cattle while others say it is difficult to even get close enough to a large heard of them to get a shot under 200 yards.

Does anybody have experience with hunting buffalo and if you do, where did you go?

I don't thinkthat there are any free-ranging herds of buffalo in Texas. So, if you're opposed to high-fence hunts, you'll probably have to look elsewhere.

This place is near Abilene: http://buffalo-mountain-hunts.com/index.php?show=buffalo

They claim to not be "canned hunts", but, that may depend on your personal interpretation. They say its "thousands of acres" so that mitigates against it being called a "pen" or a "canned hunt" in my opinion. But, there are low fences, and I don't think buffalo can jump a low fence, although they can undoubtedly run through one if they want... And, they all but guarantee your success.

Good luck!

fences dont bother me as long as animals have room to run and escape if they consider me a threat before its too late(for them). I have looked at their website before and I believe it is only bow, power, or 45-70. Was hoping to use the 30-06 but if not then i guess its time for another toy. Thanx for the information.

If you're interested in a buffalohunt, try looking at the Henry Mountains in Utah. It's a free roaming herd that can roam the whole mountain range. My wife drew a tag in 1998, hunted for 12 days (the hardest hunt we've ever been on but the best) and took her buffalo on January1, 1999. It's a once-in-a-lifetime tag.

I drive right by this place about once a week. The land that I hunt on is just on the other side of this place and I have seen the buffalo out there several times ( as well as elk ). I don't know much about buffalo hunting, but I know there are buffalo out there!
