RE: Best Caliber for Bear
45-70, as long as you get some hammer heads and learn the tractectory. you will need a tang sight for this no doubt. practice and it will work. or do what id do get closer to the friggin animal.

RE: Best Caliber for Bear
Well if we're talking blackie's...my preference for a weapon is the old String and Stick with a 300 carbon Express tipped with a muzzy 100 gr BH. I like to get close and in tight..but that's me.
I do however find bears not to tough to kill (blackie's that is), so really any gun that is a good long poker with a quality bullet should work just fine. I don't think a cannon is required for black bears..but if you do then go hard!! |
RE: Best Caliber for Bear
I'm going to have to go with EKM on this one.....and I'm usually not one to recommend the big magnums, but this is definately where they stand above the rest.Bears can get very big,and 500 yards is a LONG way off....use enough gun!! Maybe one of the Ultra mags in .300 or .338,or one of the Weatherby's.
At these ranges all bullets drop considerably so be sure to sight in by actual shooting, not just off a chart......and practice....ALOT! Buying a long-range weapon doesn't make you a long-range shooter! Good luck and good huntin'.... |
