I'd feel comfortable with a 30-06 and up.

I would use my 6.5X55 and good 160 gr.bullet and break both front shoulders. My Pa killed one on Kodiak Island in 48 with his Rem. 35 pump and factory 200 gr. Rem.coreloks.

.450 Marlin with 350 grain hornady bullets. I haven't seen anything take a step after being hit with it.

I would not use nothing smaller than a 300, I personnally use a 338 WM. Key point is bullet type and shot placement.

I've read in a couple of mags. that the guides would rather have you shoot a 30-06 real good, than a higher calibethat you have a hard time shooting and hitting the vitals. Rich
