Cabelas as an outfitter??

Has anyone out there used Cabelas as an Outfitter or gone on one of their hunts? If so could you give me some feedback?

I'm going to archery hunt Caribou in 2008 and I have it narrowed down to about 5 camps/outfitters. One hunt I'm strongly looking at is from Cabelas, but they won't give you the name/location of the camp or any details or references until after you pay. The two reps I've talked to sounded very knowledgeable and basically said "We are Cabelas, we don't deal with anything but quality hunts, ."

I do trust Cabelas, I've never had anything but good to say about them as a retailer, so I am intersted but...

Also anyone who has done any archery 'bou hunts, What would be your top 3 pieces of advise?[/align]

I don't know much about it, but since you're not getting any answers, I'll tell you that my neighborbooked an Alaska hunt using Cabela's, two years ago,and had only good things to say about the whole experience.

RE: Cabelas as an outfitter??

I booked an AK caribou drop camp with them in 2001 that was OK, but every other hunt I was interested in didn't work out, mainly because I couldn't get enough info from them or they never called back when I left a message.

I can understand their reluctance to give out the outfitter's name, but their attitude seems to be "You've read the one-paragraph description in the catalog; that's all you get until we receive your check." (If I'm going to drop many thousands on a hunt, I want to talk to references, get lots of info, etc.)

Since then I've used smaller, more personal booking agents like Bowhunting Safari Consultants.

I know that Cabela's uses some of the air taxi's up here. I also know that is not exclusive-in other words, I can book the same air taxi without Cabela's.

Just my opinion, but caribou are not all that hard to get up here. You could book yourself and save some money. Or talk to this guy

www.pristineventures.com

He is a hunt planner, and will get all of the detials worked out for you for about four or five hundred bucks.
