Kudos to you. Some of the slobs out there could learn from your action.

Well done Robert, a fine example for all to follow.

The world, not to mention the hunting community, would be a better place with more like you. Hope you get a monster.

Pink arsed mama's boys is fun ain't they? Sounds like the guide screwed up to. You never allow a hunter to go off by his lonesome for nuthin! They shoulda waited til the bull laid down, an' stalked in on him when he was weak. You did a good thing, but I ain't so sure I'd of give 'im the bull. If I did, I'd of field dressed it, an' got 'im to is guide an' let him quarter the mess. Anyhoo, I ain't gonna be in thet boat no more an' I'm glad you was there fer thet feller so he didn't freeze to death or worse.

You're a good man Robert Scott, the kind that's good to have in the elk woods. Seems like there's no middle ground on this next one so here goes. Even if it was packed deep in their packs the guide and the client both should have had radios like the Motorola talk abouts, worst case don't even turn them on unless you're in trouble. Similarly, a GPS would have showed the location of the camp, the stand, the bull and the trail travelled in between. Don't have to be (as) scared of the dark or the weather. Weight is minimal and benefits are high. The boys in today's U.S. Army figured this one out a ten years ago!

Good judgement comes from bad experience! Half of elk hunting is knowing what NOT to do!

Robert your a good man for helping that guy out. He probably would have spent a real cold night or in worst case scenario even perished had you not been there. Fortunately I have run into more people like you in the woods than the kind that could care less about anyone but themselves.

Sounds to me if you may not have only saved the bull from being lost, but you also saved his life.

I would not want to be out there with the weather the way it is not prepared.

I also have to wonder about the guide letting this guy get off on his own.............

Way to go Robert! Seems to me the outfitter should
have thrown a little cash your way. Looks like you
did the job his guide should have been doing. On hunts
that I have been on, occasionally a guide would leave
you but he would always say dont move from this spot.

Nice job, Robert. You are a gentleman and a first-rate outdoorsman. I wasn't able to hunt elk this year (new baby girl), but I will be back in Montana next fall. If I'm anywhere near you (I will hunt either the Gravellys or the Tobacco Roots), I'll give you my cell phone number. Let me know if you get one down, and I'll gladly end my season to help you pack it out.

The comraderie of outdoorsman is such that anyone can return your favor, not just the lucky guy whose ass you saved in the mountains that day.

Robert its men like you who make us look good. You went way beyond just helping him. Who knows this guy & other who have heard this story will someday be the kind of man you are. I'm sure he realizes the dire straights he was in. May God bless you for your actions! I hope someday we meet. You can know a man by his actions in times of need, it shows what character he has or doesn't have.

Just saw this topic. Good job Robert, you're a true gentleman and hunter. I'd say God has already blessed you for your christian actions and behavior.
