Default .270 too light for elk?

I was just wondering what everyone's opinion was on using a .270 winchester for elk? The reason I ask is I want to go on an elk hunt in the next couple of years and I don't want to buy another rifle if I don't have to. Also, if any of you have used a .270 for elk, what type of bullet would you recommend (i.e. Nosler Partition, etc).

Thanks

Sean

This post appears on this forum at least once a year. The majority of the polls/discussion etcbelieve that it will do the job providing accurate shot placement but it is not a real daddy of an elk cal. I expect this one to go for awhile, 270 lovers vs the world lol. Popcorn anyone?

Might be an idea to check out the "Taken elk with what cartridge" post on here.

Yeah, I saw that thread but I wanted everyone's opinion on the if the .270 is too light. Like you mentioned, I've seen opinions both ways. I also wanted to know what type of bullet people prefer for elk.

I killed an elk last year with my 270. I took 2 steps and fell over backwards. I think i was using 130 grain Winchester SilverTip or Remington 150 grain Power Point but i think it was the SilverTip.

You can use the .270 Win. on elk, sure, but you need to get premium ammo, like Nosler Partitions, or Swift A-Frames.

ive harvested a small bull with my 270 using 150gr rem corelocks
one shot DRT

elk are tuff.....put the bullet where its supposed to go
they might take off a short distance, but if the vitals are hit
(their done).......yes; use premium ammo (send the very best)

Do us all afavor please. Stop posting these blatantly argumentativetopics. This is like asking a room full of truck lovers "what's better Ford or Chevy?".

Be a discerning mind. Read some books. Read some websites. Use some logic and your own intelligence to make the best decision for yourself.
