i got a .270 just for elk hunting but then i got into bowhunting and i havent used it yet. Actually i have only shot it 9 times. Bummer cause i also bought a nive Leopold scope for it.
It will work just great. As long as you get a good shot placement.

Yes, the .270 will work on elk. I like my 300win mag with 180grain winchester accubond bullets, but I know the 270 will work fine, me and my buddy helped get a cow elk out of the woods that a guy got with a .270, it never made it 20 yards after the shot.
At least this isn't as heated as the old "is a 30-30 good for elk" question.

Heck no, it's not too light. All you need minimum is 130 grains and at least 1,200 foot pounds of energy. Have confidence in you and your firearm to take a well placed shot and it's a done deal. You can always rechamber also. I'm getting my son a 7mm-08 to go onour elk hunt with me and my 7mm Rem Mag.

Everyone has an opinion and those that think a 270 is too light probably do not have the expirience with shooting elk with a 270. I have shot 7 or 8 all with my 270. Most of the time I shoot a 150gr load but have also used 130 gr silver tip from winchester. All did the job perfectly. My first elk was shot at 340-350 yards with a 150gr 270. That elk dropped right where he stood. If the shot placemetnt isn't right well it might not work but that can be said for any rifle caliber out there.
