Historical bear v hunter Photo, both lose!

Here is an old photo that has been debated for years.
Shown is famous Kodiak brown bear guide Bill Pinell (Of Pinell & Talifson fame).
This photo is from 1958 and depicts an epic battle between two well matched oponents.

I found this on another web site and found it very interesting and wanted to share it here. I think it holds some great historical value. What do you think?

That is a great photo. We will probably never know the complete story. However, had that poor fellow known the outcome of his afternoon stroll, he might have chosen a caliber that might work when "things goes wrong".

Thanks for sharing.

Nope, Jeremiah Johnson took that rifle. I don't blame him. After all, who then could pass up a .50 caliber Hawkin?

If you look REALY close,it looks like a single shot 12 ga.Due to where the remains are it would look to be a up close and personal battle.
The bear probaly took the shot at close range and was apprently alive enough to finish the job.

That's a sweet pic. It kind of looks staged but even so thats pretty cool.
