Did you consider the .270 win or .270 wsm. If she is comfortable shooting it, the .270 has enough horsepower for elk sized game. I would prefer shooting a lighter cartrige more accuratly than a bigger bullet with significant recoil....

In rifles of the same weight,the 308win will produce less recoil shooting a 165gr bullet than a 270win shooting a 150gr bullet.The 270wsm will produce noticeably more recoil than either of the other two.

Percentage wise, the 300 WSM has quite a bit more recoil. The 308 has 17.5 lbs recoil whilte the 300 WSM has 23.8 lbs recoil. That is with both firing a 180 grain bullet from rifles of about equal weight.

Pic an averageload from any reloading site for bullet weight,powder charge and velocity.Itmay notbe exact,but for the sake of calculating recoil,it will be close enough.

If she is realy interested, then have her try out a few guns before you buy. She will know what she can handle. Don't fill her head with horror stories either. She'll start flinching before she ever shoots. My friends son is a 230 pound monster. He has to concentrate on not flinching when shooting a Savage Model 11 in 243. My Eight year old 52 pound son can shoot his NEF youth .243 all day with no problems. He even shoots my Turkey gun. Some people just handle it better. Some guns dispurse recoil better also. I had a Steyr Mountain in .270 that kicked harder than my Remington 721 in 30-06. And i have it tossing a 180gr. NP at 2885fps ( right up there with most factory .300 Win Mags). Don't waist your time on managed recoil. Just get her a gun that fits well and teach her to get it tucked in well.

.300 WSM for her! It is a great round with not toooomuch recoil.

I do not have quick access to foot pounds of recoil, what does the 150 grain 270 have.....not the 270 wsm?????

the 308 win is an excellent cartridge

the short action bolt cycle is ideal fer accuracy and quickness

my Dad has used a rifle chambered fer this cartridge exclusively hunting Colorado Elk and been very successfull

if i had ta ever replace my trusty -06 i would not hesitate ta get a
308 win
