Anybody here shot a .338WM when antelope hunting?

RE: .338 for antelope

Nope.
Antelope are light skinned and relatively small. A smaller weapon is better suited for the job. The 243, 25-06, 260, 270 etc are all the fire power needed to take them ethically.

They are not a particularly tough animal. The .338 will do the job, but look for a bullet that won't zip right through them without doing the necesary damage in transit...

I am going to use my .257 Roberts, but it has been a ongoing debate here at work....some guys shoot them with the 250 grain Partions.

Goose,
Me!,Me! I have!,I have! and it works GREAT!!!!.I have had less meat damage with my .338 win Mag on antelope than with a 30-06,270, 25-06 or .243

True they are not hard to bring down I have killed antelop with .223,22-250,220 Swift,.243,25-06,257 Rob.,250 Savage,6mm Rem,260 Rem.6.5x55 Swiss,270 win and short,7mag,280 rem,30-30,308,300 Savage, the various 300 Magnums,30-06,.338 win mag and the .338 Ultra mag.
I used the 210 NP on the ones me and my uncle shot, dropped them like a rock.:D:D
I'm going to use my .458 Win Mag this year with 300 gr Hornady Spire points.Thats going to be a fun hunt,I have 4 goat tags 1 either sex and 3 doe tags.:D

I've used a 338WinMag and it worked quite well. As a matter of fact it was a LOT of fun. That wasone serious arse whoopin'on impact.

Meat damage was minor compared to the ultra velocity stuff.

BBJ, 458 Winnies on antelope eh?
That is a little bit outside of the box....
Ought to be a real hoot.

EKM,
It might be out side of someones box but not mine,I enjoy hunting with BIG guns. There is no setlaws on HOW big you can use but there are on how SMALL.Well I geuss in Montana there isn't but there should bea caliber minimum.

Goose if you wan't I would use you .338 WM and not look back.

375 H&H and a 358 norma but never a 338 WM, It will do the job with little meat loss.

A friend of mine uses his for everything. However he says it don't kill them any deader than his 264 Win Mag. Strange but true.
