does calling work on eastern bears?
 

i got a bear call a few years ago, haven't really tried it much. i know bears can be called in out west, but how about in the woods of new england? and why do bears hoot? a friend watched one at 3 in the morning hoot back and forth with two others in his backyard, for almost two hours, and they have been doing it almost every night for the past week. what's up with that?

I am not sure if a bear will come out to a call or not. My guess would be yes an ocassional bear would come out to one. I know when moose calling bears have come out on ocassion and sit in the road and look at you. But
have never tried to call one out intentionaly so I would guess that one would. I am not sure about the hooting as they could be warning each other as a cub may be around.
