Shooting Sticks Good or Bad
Anyone use shooting sticks? It gets harder & harder to hold steady. And with a long shot that becomes a problem. Just wondering what you folks think and if you do use one, whick kind?
Thanks for your input |
RE: Shooting Sticks Good or Bad
Shooting sticks are the bomb. I would alwayswant to have a pair when hunting big open country (out west).
something like this: ![]() ![]() Stoney Point Steady Stix™ II Shooting Sticks - Black Lightweight, rugged aluminum legs fold to 14" for transport, assemble to 39". Color: Black. Item: XG 222262 $34.99 ![]() ![]() that's from cabelas I like them a lot better than say, a bi-pod---they're lighter and you can hook them with a snap release to your fanny pack for a "quick set-up" |

RE: Shooting Sticks Good or Bad
The only time you'd need them is in open country. Otherwise I rest against a tree. They make good shooting sticks . . . unless it's real windy. Not real portable though!
I personally like the Harris bipod(s). They attach directly to your rifle. Nothing "extra" to carry around. To read about them go to (I hope this is allowed): http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/pod/standard-pod-wrapped.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/pod-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat20712-cat20774_TGP&rid=&indexId=cat20774&nav Action=push&masterpathid=&navCount=1&p arentType=index&parentId=cat20774&id=00058 25 |
RE: Shooting Sticks Good or Bad
They are not the best rest but they are certainly better than nothing. I often carry a set.

RE: Shooting Sticks Good or Bad
i don't like carrying two awkward sticks around. Just practice your offhand shooting and positional shooting. Be different...be a rifleman, practice, excel, pride yourself onyour shooting ability.

RE: Shooting Sticks Good or Bad
Excelling at marksmanship is something I hope everyone aspires to, but if THE SHOT is (for example) 300 yds--it's always better to have a rest. My "sticks" compress to about 1 ft in length. don't even notice them until they're needed (not always needed of course).
