New Mexico Elk Hunt -success pics

I have been hunting pretty much all my life, but my first time archery hunting and I got a 6x6 bull. Archery hunting is very exciting and I can now see why so many people do it.

Bow - Reflex highlander
Arrow - Carbon Express Maxima
Broadhead - muzzy mx-4

Northern NM bull on public land.

The shot was a 52 yard shot. Yea it was a massive thrill. This bull was bugling as he was comming up the canyon. great hunt.

rockymountain hunter:

Beautiful elk! Congratulations. Bow has to be the toughest way to hunt. I am a rifle only hunter but acknowledge the great challenge of having to get so close to such an acutely aware, cautious animal as a mature bull elk. Northern New Mexico is a beautiful place too.

RH,
Congrates on a good first bull(archery).I know what you mean about the rush,I literaly get the shakes like a drunk on Sunday morrning.I have killed close to 20 elk with a rifle, and it dosen't hold a candle to archery elk.

Nice bull, well earned. We just got back from Wyoming and killed a nice 4x4 with the bow, made a set-up and called for 30 min no taker's so when my buddy stood up to put his pack on here was the 4x4 watching him from 20 yd's.

Congrats!!!! Real nice 6x6. And with a bow is one thing, but the very first time bow hunting for the wiley wapitie is a very big feather in your cap!!!! Don't expect it to be that easy every time from now on.....:) I know guys that have bow hunted for elk for 20 years and never stuck a single lung. You have some of the very best eating there is in my opinion!!!!!!Well done!!!!

In responce to some of the questions I have got,,,,and again thanks for the comments.

-The shot was a 52 yard shot according to my range finder
-My bow is set at 68 pounds (my bows IBO is rated at 305fps), but as far as KE, I have no idea what kind of numbers im producing.
-The muzzy MX-4 worked great, they left a blood trail that anyone could follow, after the shot the elk probably went another 100 - 150 yards.
-I have no field pictures cause the weather was pretty bad and all I had was my wife digital camera (which I left in the truck)
-Yes the hunt was a "DO it yourself" type hunt, but im fortunate in that the hunting area is just like a 1.5 hour drive from my house.
-First day we packed out what we could with backpacks, the next day we took our 2 horses and got the rest....
