Congrats on all the luck.
You still up hunting? You have 'net access up there? Might have to check into that hunting camp! Awesome your wife's grandad still hunts. I hope I'm still in the game at 90. Thank you for sharing. |

RE: Alaskan Hunt Photos
Roy had a pretty awesome time...we all did for that matter. He said he'd wanted to hunt in Alaska since he saw an article about hunting up here when he was six years old. That was 85 years ago. Talk about patience paying off.
To answer some of your questions... BAC - temps were in the 30's and 40's most of the time we were up there. We had wet snow and rain most of the time and the fog was pretty awful at times. All in all the weather really sucked, but it didn't slow us down as much as we initially anticipated. Bearhuntr - My bull scored 330 and change. You really don't get much score for those tops and the smaller bez and shovel really hurt his score. Kevin's (my father-in-law) bull scored in the 360 range because it's got bigger bez and double shovels. moosehunter21 - you are correct that we didn't use a guide. Any non-resident U.S. citizen can hunt caribou unguided in AK. The only species non-res are required to have a guide for are brown/griz, sheep, and goat. My in-laws wouldn't have to worry about that though because they are within the second degree of kindred and can just hunt with me. dayna - no that's not the Franklin Bluffs. We were a long ways from that area and all of our kills were with a rifle. We took our archery tackle, but the 'bou were pretty skittish and stayed far away from the cover along the river...with the exception of mine, and we just happend to catch him moving through. Power - yup, my igloo's got internet...running water too, but damn is it cold!!! Thanks for all the comments guys. I'm off to chase grizzlies this Friday. With any luck I'll be able to post some more pictures sometime next week. AK Jeff |
