Maine moose

Hi all
My partner and I have drawn a tag for area 28 for the Oct Moose hunt. Now we are scrambling to get a guide. Can anyone hook us up with someone good?
Thanks for any help.

Congrats on being drawn, and good luck. Unfortunately can't suggest anyone in that area.

First of all congrats on your permit! Area 28 is Eastern Maine I
think ? I will check it out for you and get back at you soon.

would encourage you to consider a self hunt. If you have 4-5 days to scout pre-season. moose are relatively abundant, and fun to hunt w/out a guide. A friend and I hunted western Maine several years ago and had ample opportunities on some nice bulls. Practice your calling, be in the cuts at dawn and dusk-- and keep moving around-- there are moose everywhere. I've done the guide thing several times, I just find it more exciting, challenging when you can self-hunt. just a suggestion.

Yes, Southern half of Washington County below Route 9. I believe the only season is the second week there with bulls only. This is a hard season to call them in. I live in the Northern half so I am checking a few
guides out. If I was you I would want one that knows his stuff and not
just says so. There is afew good areas there, The Dennisville River
area and the Love Lake area, to name a couple. If you still want it checked into let me know and when a good one is found I will let you
know by PM.

Thanks for the replies fellas. We dont have 4-5 days to go up and scout.
I started new job this year and instead of my 6 weeks of vac, I get 2.
Hunting out west is almost out of the question now. I have been up
there once before to hunt partridge during the moose hunt and everyone
just seemed to be driving the logging roads. Want to find a guy who
knows where the clearcuts are and can do some calling. Have sent
off quite a few emails to leads that I got over on the maine site, but
any other leads will still be appreciated.:)

Anyone ever hear of Wayne Gatcomb from East Machias? My Pard got his name from the game warden.
