Hunting licenses and tags?

How much do you spend on hunting licenses and tags for your state, and do you think it is a fair amount?
MT. You have to have a conservation license that is $8.00
Bow and arrow (archery) .....................................$10.00
Hunting access enhancement fee...........................$2.00
Deer A .................................................. ............$16.00
Elk .................................................. .................$20.00
Bear.............................................. .....................$19.00
Deer B................................................. ...............$15.00
Deer B antlerless whitetail.......................................$1 0.00
Upland bird.............................................. .............$7.50
Sportsmans with bear.............................................$ 85.00
First time youth hunter 12-17..................................$ Free
I have spent $92.50 this year not including my fishing license.
I think it is great that first time youth hunters who pass their hunter education gets their youth combo sports for free.I have noticed a lot of new young hunters since they started this.
I think the price of licenses and tags here in Mt. is ok but is getting a little inflated each year for the efforts I have seen done.

RE: Hunting licenses and tags?

Looks pretty cheap yo me Montana. I'll bet we're about double most of those feesjust to the south of you! I will never complain about the rising cost of fees so long as there are poor non-residentslobs that are getting gouged each year by our G&F's. $418.00 for non-resident elk. $43.00 for me.
Beside, we all know that when we tell our wives that we hunt because it's cheap meat, we're all lying! (lol) $875.00 for rifle/scope. $23,000.00 for a 30' camper. $45,000.00 for the truck to pull it.And so on . . .But so long as the elk widowbuys it, I'm gonna pay whatever the G&Fasks.
Hee, hee.

RE: Hunting licenses and tags?

Here is a breakdown of my home province of Saskatchewan, canadafor hunting.

Habitat Certificate: $11
Over the counter tags for Residents:
1st Whitetail Deer: $33.00
2nd Whitetail Deer: $33.00
Anterless Whitetail Deer: $20.00
Archery Mule Deer: $38.00
Elk: $33.00
Moose: $33.00
Black Bear: $17.00
Upland Game: $ 11.00
Migratory Bird: $18.00

Draw Tags for Residents:
$4.00 Application fee for each species
Mule Deer: $38.00
Anterless Mule Deer: $20.00
Antelope: $38.00
Elk: $55.00
Moose: $55.00

My 2006 at this point looks like this:
Habitat, 1st whitetail, Anterless whitetail, Draw Mule Deer, Draw Anterless Mule Deer, Black Bear and Elk
$172.00
+ $20.00 Draw App fees
= $192.00

Still up in the air will be a bird hunting ($29.00) and possibly 2nd Whitetail ($33.00). So potentially I could spend$254.00 this year on tags or permits to hunt.

RE: Hunting licenses and tags?

How does the non-res draw work for elk in MT? I would really like to get in on some of that. No elk here in ontario!

RE: Hunting licenses and tags?

I believe the NR drawing deadline is March 15 prior to the season for that year. They now have the super tags also where you can increase your chances for a certain tag like moose or sheep for $5 per try.
We buy our tags over the counter except for moose, sheep, antelope, bison, mountain goat and certain area elk and deer hunts. Not exactly sure how the drawings are held for NR.
Here is the FWP website fwp.mt.gov

You could make one of those "priceless" comercials out of the statement. But how right you are!

In Utah:

General Elk....................................... $65
General Archery Deer......................... $40
Extended Archery Deer....................... $5
Antlerless Elk.................................... $65
Fishing/Small Game Combo.................. $35
Getting the little lady to buy all
of my excusesfor hunting..................... Priceless
