elk droppings
I have a question about elk droppings. I saw a strange pattern I haven't seen before. I had elk everywhere this past week. They were talking and running around. I found small quantities of dropping all the way down the trail. It was basically 2 pellets of extremely fresh droppings every hundred yards or so on the trail. I haven't seen this before. I was thinking it was an elk marking a trail for another one to follow, possibly calf droppings, or maybe a couple of pellets fall out when a bull calls. The bulls were making short screaches and what sounded like a bark. Any idea what causes this pattern?

RE: elk droppings
Sounds like the elk were doing the two step.

I figure that if I was doing the duty while walking, mine might be stretched out a hundred yards or so.
Now that the joking is over. Yep, that seems pretty normal to me. They may have been on the move and the elk was a little bit bound up. I don't think they were marking a scent trail or anything though. |

To me it sounds like elk on the move, they will string out aways if they are going on the walk. BBJ |
RE: elk droppings
Bareback, its funny you mention that. I have always wanted to scatter milk duds on the ground and have a newby come walking up as I am picking them up and eating them, all the while telling the person how fresh they tast!!!!! That would be a classic!!!!
