Need new gun to replace 270 "help"

I am sure this has been beat to death many times but I cant't find the threads.
I am moving from the North east to Oregon and am going to leave my deer gun, a Winchester Model 70 - 270 that I love behind so I don't have to transport it when I go back east to hunt. The question is what rifle do I buy for Elk / Bear hunting in Oregon. I would love another 270 but 2 the same don't make it, Suggestions???
I don't take shots over 200 yards!! and like to keep them down to 100 if possible.
Price not a problem lets say less than $800

Browning BLR in 358 win, should fit the bill well for out in Oregon,if that somthing you don't like look at the 270 WSM,7mm-08,308 or 300 WSM in a nice compact rifle.
Fit it with a 2-7 scope and have fun.

I lived in Oregon for twenty years and shot a Marlin .444 or a New England single shot 45-70 govt. They both have EXCELLENT knockdown power for close range shooting. Although I hunted the jungles of Western Oregon. If your going to be in Central or East I would shoot something with a little more range.

Lived in Eastern Ore most my young life and a 7 mm will be just fine for everything out there including speed goats

30-06 would be as good as it gets for what you want. However for the conditions you describe, the 270 would work just as well.

I would go with a 7mmremmag.

Hard to beat the versatility of the 7mm Rem Mag, but a 30-06 would do just as good at the ranges you're shooting, and you could use heavier bullets (180gr would be great) if you wanted to for the elk and bears. I own both calibers and have killed elk using both with ease. I suppose a 270 would work good too, I'm just not much of a 270 fan since it shoots smaller bullets than the 7mm and 30-06 with less energy.

Thanks for all the great advice, slowly I learn!

300 WSN, what is the WSN designation and the 358 WIN?
45 70 I have shot and liked it, do they come in multiple shot?
I don't have any feel for how a 7MM campares to a 300 win or a 270
What is the order of size /caliber cartridge size etc. of the above bullets?

Stopped at GI Joe's last and got to look over some ammo for the 300win and 45 70 the 300 win cartridge looked huge compared to a 30-06 or 270 cartridge.

I am leaning toward the 45 70. Are they a black powder substitute or modern powder? I have heard comflicting information. Awrite up on 45 70in general would help, plain and simple

Thanks again Phil
