I am shooting a 340gr. arrow with about 60# of Kinetic energy out of a 61# bow and was wondering if this is enough for elk out to 40 yards?

Your KE is good, use a good Cut On Contact like Stinger in 4-blade, SnufferSS in 125, Razorcaps in 125, & you're good to go there.

But you need to up your arrow wt to 425 grns or so, give yourself a good chance, elk are big & tough. If you happen to hit in a less that perfect spot the heavier setup with a great elk head will go the extra distance in penetration.

In some states they have a 400grn minimum, it's for a reason!! <grin> Good Luck & shoot straight!!!!---------------------ElkNut1

make a good shot and you will be fine. hit a shoulder and you got a long day ahead of you!

Manboy, you're a very correct there on making good shots with a bow. But nerves & excitement can come into play especially so on newer elk hunters & old!! <grin>

That's the reason for the heavier setup, a 425grn arrow with a good COC head will blow through the scapula/shoulder blade if needed with 60# of KE. We've done it more than once!!! Be prepared for for worst case senario!!! <grin>-------------------------------ElkNut1

yes i agree also, with ur set up u will most likely kill the elk easily if u get into good range and make a well placed shot but a lot of times things dont work out how u plan them if i were i would get alittle bit heavier arrow u will sacrifice some speed but u will get more penetration which is very important factor while bow hunting.

Thank You for all of your input. I just ordered new arrows that will put me in the 400 plus grain range. Thanks again. I,m so pumped I can hardly contain it!
