RE: buffalo hunt??????????

I saw a segment on TV about a horseback hunt on free ranging buffalo with a bow. They planned a stalk and made it look like it was a big dealthen road up to the herd and the person shot their buffalo from 20 yards or so. The animals just stood there and only ran after the bull that was shot ran. Not real sporting IMO but technically hunting none the less.We have a buffalo grower here that has some restaurants and you can order it in place of steak. Real tasty and leaner than beef.

Yeah, we love it! I got about 350 pounds of meat off a cow and its great. When it runs out I may just have to go shoot another one.

I'm looking into a place here in Colorado over in the San Luis Valley. It's 65,000 acres which they hunt them on. That's 10 square miles. I'm probably just going to do a meat hunt. Debating on whether to use my 444 or 375 H&H. Good luck---CB
Just so you know Bob there's 640 acres in a square mile. 65,000 acres is over 100 square miles.

Even at a place like the Flying D Ranch in Montana where the bison are more or less free range over a huge area they're still basically glorified beef cows. Most of the "hunts" only take one day and they're guaranteed kill.

Non-residents can apply for free range bison tags in Alaska. They're extremely difficult to draw, and the bison are reportedly pretty difficult to hunt. They live in areas with heavy cover and they're good at ducking into the timber and disappearing.
