Correct grain?
This coming June, my dad and I are heading up to Ontario for a black bear hunt. I was just wondering what grain arrow I should shoot. I am shooting at 50# right now and I have a 200 grain arrow with a 125 grain broadhead. I was thinking that I should maybe move up to a 300 grain arrow. Any suggestions?

RE: Correct grain?
Sorry I can't help you w/ bowhunting but you might try posting in the bowhunting forum, most of us here I believe are rifle hunters..

RE: Correct grain?
My arrows are around 350gr and I like the heavier arrow for penetration.

RE: Correct grain?
I would use at least a 400 grain arrow/broadhead combo or moreto hunt bears with. Also I would have to say that most of the hunters that post here in the big game fourm do bowhunt as well as rifle hunting too.

RE: Correct grain?
PSE:
Hate to inform you that Ontario Bear Season does not open until August. You may want to rethink/replan your trip with your Dad. As for poundage, 50# is adequate, just. Our law states 48.5# minimum for bear and moose. IMO you arrow is too light at 200 gr shaft weight. I would suggest that you go with the 300 gr shaft and the 125 gr broadhead. BTW, where were you planning to hunt. OA |
