Grizzly Weapons

We talk about the big magnum rifles for grizzly. Did anyone read the Outdoor Life Artical last mont about the guy who killed the grizzly sow with a Buck 110 folding knife and his fists.? The Bear attacked him while he was skinning a deer. He knew he could not get to his rifle so he defended himself and managed ti kill the Bear. Is the Buck 110 knife a good weapon to hunt Grizzly? HELL NO. But I quess it worked for him. I think its in Octobers issue.

Over the years I have become very very proficient with the katana (the sword you see in most martial arts movies) and I wouldn't hesitate to take a bear on with it, or any other animal for that matter. I know that I could come straight through the bears skull or take off a paw with one swing of the blade. How long do you think it would take a bear to bleed out with its throat slit? Probably not too long. I'm not saying that I would not get injured in the fight, but I'm willing to bet that my first strike would be a terminal one.

That being said, I would still rather have a .375H&H in my hands, with my 44mag on my hip, and then the sword on my back as a last resort. A heavy bullet at 50 yards is much better medicine than any blade at arms length.

Not a good place to be for sure. A 3 1/2 inch blade it a very short weapon.

I read this the other day while waiting at Wally World for a new tire, and wow, not only does he kill it but then the trip out to his hunting buddies is pretty amazing also.

I once killed a 1,200+ pound costal grizzley bear with the "iron claw' ala Black Jack Mulligan.

I didn't say that I would do it, but if I HAD TO do it (and the bear didn't jump me from behind) I think I could live through the experience. LOL.
