Nosler Partitions or Accubonds?
 

Going Elk hunting in Idaho next month using a 270wsm. Was wondering which on of these in the Federal line would do best?
Would like to use same ammo for whitetail if possible. And no I will not buy a bigger gun this one shoots very well.

I am shooting a 270 Weatherby for elk and my gun loves the accubonds. The only advantage of the partitions are their toughness and the fact that you can get a 160gr bullet. However, accuracy is more important to me, because if you can't hit em in the vitals, then it doesn't matter what bullet you have. The accubonds have that "ballistic" teflon tip on them and fly really well. With the right load, you should be zeroed at 200yds and about 3.5" low at 300.

Where in Idaho are you going?

I would recomend using the Nosler Partitions. they hold togeather well and group well.

I took a moose last fall with a 160 gr accubond out of my 7mm rem mag and it shed its core. I will use partitions from now on.

Which ever one your rifle shoots best. Both will very likley exit the animal and the dead elk will never know the differance.

use the partitions. I think the better bullet will be particularly important in view of your caliber. I dont think that the difference in a 3/4" group as opposed to a 1 1/2" group will matter as much as haveing the very toughest bullet to break bones if neccessary. Good luck . pick your shots carefully and hope you dont have to chase a wounded elk.

jparker29,You don't need a bigger gun and the best bullet for your rifle is the one that is the most accurate.
I have killed elk with the Noslers,Accubonds and yes.......Even Corlocts.There are some very good choices out there today.....Partitions,Accubonds,Fail Safes,Triple Shock and others.Choose any of these. Find which one is the most accurate and most available and use that one.I would use the heaviest grain availablefor yourcaliber as well.
I currently shoot the Accubonds out of my .300wsm. Super accurate!!!!

I have some pictures to post on this subject later. There are lots of good bullets, IMHO........most of what you read about them are "HYPE". By the bullet manufacturers and those that make a single observation and then profess it to be so in all cases. I have been shooting Accubonds and Partitions and Swift A-frames that my buddy has been reloading, trying to find the best load for my .338RUM. We have shot about 100 rounds over the last month, and in so doing have also shot some pieces of steel plate and steel bar stock. Don't know what these would have done to a moose or elks shoulder that according to some are bullet proof. But I do know that each of them shot through the 1/2 inch steel plate at 100 yards. None of them shot through the 1 1/8 inch bar stock, but the Accubond penetrated just as far if not further than the other two. Though not going completely through, the Accubonds penetrated enough to bulge the back of the stock out.
Don't always believe what I hear or read........but I believe what I see in this case. Accubonds performed just as well in my mind. Now if we could just get the perfect load right!!! Guess we just get to keep shooting!!!!

hornady.. 140grain light magnum.. good energy flatter trajectory
sellier &bellot.. 150grain soft point.. tack driving accuracy...inexpensive

both rounds are good for whitetail and elk


most important.............shot placement
