How is the 180gr BST weatherby makes for Elk out of the 300 weatherby? What do you guys like for elk out of your 300wby? Do any of you guys use them for deer to?

I would use one of the bonded bullets or the failsafe or the x-bullet. At weatherby speed you want that bullet to hold together!

The 300 Wby will kill elk cleanly,as long as you do your part. I would prefer a different bullet than the BST, but that's just my opinion.I have a friend who uses 180gr Win BTs and has killed oneelk. He told me his guide said they were an unsuitable bullet for elk, but he killed his with one shot thru the lungs on a broadside elk at 80yds. I've always used either failsafes or partitions, but there are plenty of bullets for elk.

Ok, Thanks. If I end up putting a scope onmy 300wbyand end up using it then I would probably just go with the Federal 180gr Trophy Bonded Bear Claw. I use the 175gr Trophy Bonded Bear Claw in my 7mm and it is the best bullet ever on elk!

For any hunting I preferr a premium bullet of some kind. I like Barnes X or Nosler Partitions, but failsafes, ect... will do well also i would think.

I have shot an Elk with the Nosler Partitions and they are unsuitable for ELK with the large bones the bullet seemed to break apart and not provide the kind of devastation that you are looking for.

I now hunt exclusively for ELK and Bear with Federal Ammunitions Barnes Triple Shock 180 grain out of a 300 win mag. These bullets are solid as they come and really will knock an Elk down in its tracks.

Well that's about the craziest thing I have ever heard. The partition has probably taken more elk over the years than any other premium bullet made. A 180 grain partition out of a 300 WILL ABSOLUTELY break any elks shoulder out there and still continue through the vital organs.

That is all my .300 win mag is fed. And that is all it will ever be fed again unlessI need a bigger bullet
