On the U.S.side, you need to fill out US Customs form 4457. http://www.rdrop.com/users/tedpet/cus-form.htm This will allow you to get your weapon back into the US.
Very important, do not forget this form as they could confiscate your firearm.
I got lucky last year at the border and they let me fill one out while coming back to the US after my hunt.

I have just heard that you now need a passport to enter Canada. I would check into this as soon as possible. Hopefully thishas not taken effect yet, but better safe than sorry.

Hi,

I think most everything has been answered for you. The only thing I would add is the laws have changed a bit this year. All the paperwork is the same, but the amount has changed to what I believe is $ 25/gun/60 day period.

Cheers,

Dan

I cross the border every week, one of the questions are, "have you every been arrested?" Anyone convicted of a DUI is considered a felon in Canada and cannot enter. If you have a lot of bucks you can pay your way by filling out another form. Good luck.

Hey Bobby. I've got to ask, what is this "other form" that will cost big bucks?

Thanks

You do not need a passport to go to Canada until1 January2008. See below.New Requirements for Travelers Between the United States and the Western Hemispherehttp://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbpmc_2223.html

The Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 requires that by January 1, 2008, travelers to and from the Caribbean, Bermuda, Panama, Mexico and Canada to have a passport or other secure, accepted document to enter or re-enter the United States. In order to facilitate the implementation of this requirement, the Administration is proposing to complete it in phases following a proposed timeline, which will be published in the Federal Register in the near future. This is a change from prior travel requirements and will affect all United States citizens entering the United States from countries within the Western Hemisphere who do not currently possess valid passports.

As for the DUI part, according to Canada’s Criminal Code, conviction of driving under the influence of alcohol makes the individual an “inadmissible” person, in violation of Section 19 (2) (a.1) of the Immigration Act of Canada. A waiver of exclusion may be obtained from a Canadian consulate in the United States. The link below to the Canadian Govt web site provides details on persons who are “inadmissible” and info about the waiver.

Whotheguy, George Bush Jr. had a DUI and had to file one of those applications. Its pretty pricey and suggest maybe Alaska, good luck.
