12 ga. for Bear

I was wondering what you all think about hunting black bear with a 12 gauge. The farthest shot would be around 50 yards.

Absolutely......

As always....know your weapon....

Perfectly fine.

Some of the modern saboted slugs turn your shotgun into a 45-70+p or a 450 Marlin.

Winchester has a 3" 385 grain partition gold slug leaving the barrel at 2000 fps.

I'm taking my step father on a black bear hunt in Maine next month. I will be using my '06, but he will be using my 870 12ga with slugs. I bought a box each of the high end Remington and Winchester sabots to see what shoots best and that is what he will be using. Hopefully we will have bear pictures to post when we get back!
