To all the veteran elk hunters, my ? is what will you not leave camp with out when you go hunting?
for example, what is a must have when you get an elk down that you take in your truck or in your pack?besides the obvious like tag,bow

couple gallons of water?
knife sharpener
game bags , so on and so on

hook a rookie up!! before i learn the hard way!!!!

You will need the basics.

1. Weapon and ammo
2. Binoculars/Rangefinder
3. Scents and Calls
4. License/Tag

You will need your survival gear.
1. Compass
2. Knife
3. Waterproof Matches/Firestarting Stuff
4. Canteen and Water Purification Tabs
5. Flashlight and Glow Sticks
6. Reflective Trail Markers
7. Insect Repellant
8. Survival Blanket
9. First Aid Supplies
10. MREs

The list goes on and on. This is how I break up my hunting gear.

Group one is stuff that I actually need to kill game.
Group two is stuff I would need to survive in the wild should something happen.
Group three is luxury crap that I can fit in my pack without hassle.

TP is definitely a don't leave without. Pine boughs hurt and don't do the job. You be smelly and itchy. Especially when you been eating camping food and systems aren't working like they do at home. I believe he was serious.
