I WANT TO KILL A BEAR
I need some help. I am new to large game hunting. I have done tons of small game, ie quail, pheasant, squirrel, etc. I am just about ready for my first deer season, and I have some friends willing to show me the ropes for that. I want to hunt a bear though. I am in easter NC (Camp Lejeune) and I need some help, cause I know if I go out there with no experience, I am probably not going to find anything and just get frustrated. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to email me [email protected]

RE: I WANT TO KILL A BEAR
Blood, tell us more. Are you going to bait it. Are thereany black bear sightings
in the area you are going to hunt? How's the terrain you're going to hunt? Does it call for short yardage shots or long? Have you checked the Reg's for NC black bear hunt's? Need more info. |

RE: I WANT TO KILL A BEAR
Rebel Hog asks if I am going to bait??? I have no clue, man. Am I supposed to? I am also unfamiliar with the terrain. Most hunters I have spoken with tell me that you wont get much more than 100 yard shot around where they hunt, but they are mostly hunting deer and turkey. Like I said, I dont even know whereor how to scout out a bear hunt. tnhoundsman, If you could hook me up, I would greatly appreciate it. Feel free to hand out my email.

RE: I WANT TO KILL A BEAR
You didnt say if you were going to hunt NC for bear?I dont know a damn thing about NC bear hunting.Didnt think there was many bear in the south. If you want a bear and can travel to Maine or New brunswick, your chances are about 99% success.I live in Pa and have hunted bear for about 25 yrs with no success yet.We have bear but not overpopulated for sure.A spring hunt in N.B. is almost a guarantee. There is probably some NC hunters here that can help if you cant travel.

RE: I WANT TO KILL A BEAR
I am new to bear hunting too and have done some homework. NC has some of the biggest bears in the states. That is due to so many bear sanctuaries here.It is illegal to bait bear in NC. I would suggest getting the NC Wildlife Commisions book of regulations, its free at any sporting goods stores. In the back you will see each county listed with the number of bears taken. That will give you a good idea of bear populations in each county. I have discoved that more bear were taken on game lands than on private lands.Thatsgood news for us guys on a budget. Good luck.

RE: I WANT TO KILL A BEAR
Blood,
I've watched some shows on Bear hunting in NC (down by the coast) and am pretty sure that chasing with dogs is the predominant method down there. Some very thick country it looked like. You need to locate some hunters there that got dogs and love to chase em'. They'd probably be willing to let you go as most of them kind of have a "more the merrier" type attitude and just love to have the dogs workin'. Post your request down in the southeast forum on this website and ask around (or call around)in NC to sporting goods stores, dnr, etc to get going. |
