121553, this was in Rifle Colorado in 1994 and yes I used a .270/Fed.150 NP.
It was less than 100yds and notice I don't use camo.

Things got slow and quiet on the Forum, heh, heh
This little diddy came to me and I jotted it down during commercials,
Sorry, couldn't help myself!
It was only a handful of posts ago, on this thread that......
=======================
CHANGES
Blasphemy and Sacrilege! Our beliefs you defy,
Angrily accused by the 270 cult was I!
As darkness fell, I was attacked from the left and flanked on the right.
I even heard the faint whispers of O'Connor’s old might.

----------

Away from my allies, alone I had strayed,
Two or three on one, an easy mark they thought made,
Then came that Elk Cartridge Poll with results so tall,
and suddenly over theForum an eerie silence did fall. [][]

----------

For the sunwas now risingand it wasclear to see....
Things now, are DEFINITELY NOT, as they once used to be....
Magnums and their 30-06 kin now rule the elk hunting day,
And turnabout my friends, is indeed fair play.
EKM

The Poll was open about 3 days and open to anyone from the forum to respond to the following question:

I think the silent majotity you spoke of is still quiet. That being all the folks who use the 270 and have no intention of changing whats always worked for them. I bet when Elk season opens, there will be as many 270 shells sold as there ever was. I prefer the 30-06 but if it were up to a flip of the coin on opening morning and the 270 won the toss, I would load it up and go. We are close though, your minimum is my Maximum.. Just a difference of a few letters. Good Hunting EKM.

Robust, and complete, and specific on point FACTS are indeed hard to come by. Any time you would care to offer any "facts" beyond your opinion we would be glad to look at them.(There has got to be some out there somewhere that "cut the other way.") Remember, actual favorite weapons currently being used by successful elk hunters, not the peanut gallery/theorist/nostalgic variations.

Gross ammo sales would be a classic "proof of nothing" statistic as most the ammo users have never even seen an elk, except maybe in the zoo. Good luck, we'll be standing by.

Ah, duty calls.
I'm gonna be outof pocket again for a while, it was fun talking with you all during the break.
Maybe we can look at some of those "facts" on the next go around, if y'all come up with some new/other stuff.

Good luck,
EKM

I don't know any puplished facts about how many people hunt elk with a 270. I do know however that many do and I am sure will continue to. The ammo thing was really just another way to say that nothing will change a hunters mind about any gun he uses except bad expierences. Everyone has them who hunts much regardless of the caliber of choice. When they happen themost will blame everything but his own abilities or lack thereof. Seldom does the lack of ability of a caliber turn out to be the problem.

See you next fall when this comes around again, and it will because no minds will be changed hunting with the old keyboard.Where Have I heard that before?
