Moose it is relitively cheap.
You live in B.C. you are 1/2 way there.
Me and my father left Great Falls MT, @ 8:00 am on the 27 th of May 2003 and got home June 22nd @ 8:pm

We fished all through Canada and PARTS(From Tok-Fairbanks-Anchorage-Homer)of Alaska plus hired a charter for 4 days for a gran total of 2800.00 US Total round trip. For what we caught in halibut alone paid for the trip, not counting all the fresh salmon, dolly varded, grayling and trout.plus othe game fish.We pulled a little scamper camper behind a 2002 Dode 3/4 ex-cab pick-up.Now thats a fair price to have a trip of a lifetime.

My buddy & I just bought a fishing cabin there on the Kenai River. Just outside of Solidota (Spelling ?). We went there a couple years ago & had a blast on the silver salomon. We went out of Homer for halibut----averaged around 35-50 lbs-----I was told those are the best eating size.

I use to get sea sick---I used that patch you put behind your ear---Worked Great. I use it again next time I go out. Your Dr has to call it in to the drug store.

As much as I love my Colorado, it is indeed "little league" stuff when compared to Alaska.....
Alaskais the "real deal" in terms of remoteness, ruggedness, wildlife and hunting and fishing opportunities.

EKM,

Having lived in both states, I don't know if I would call Colorado "Little League", just different. The fishing up here is not all that technical, it's rather brutal to say the least. Personally, I find fishing the South Platte for 20-inch bows on #20 flies to be the ultimate in fishing. You must be perfect, or you will not catch fish. Up here, if the fish are there and the bite is on, you will catch them.

Even with the hunting up here it is different. Depending on where you go, the animals are not as wary as they are in some highly pressured areas out West. Moose can be pretty wary and difficult, but caribou are not all that hard to hunt. If they are there and moving, you should have a good chance of killing one.

The thing about Alaska is that you are always in survival mode. If you have flown in and gotten dropped off, you are totally on your own. You are in survival mode. There is no room for error because you are not going to walk out. You are on your own until that plane comes. You must be smart, you must be careful. I was telling my dad just the other day how I am always very careful when skinning an animal up here about my knife. I never set it down fora second, but put it in its sheath. If you accidentally put your hand or your knee on your knife, you could be dead. Just that simple. Add the weather and the bears, and the packing out of animal a piece at a time on your back and well........it certianly will test your mettle.

Hey, I saw that you were from Durango. We lived in Ignacio for about 5 years. We still have our house down there. I like that area very much and would like to move back down there sometime.
Did you take a charter for your Halibut? I know some people just north of Homer their Charter is called Kings Run And last year I went Halibut and King fishing We did pretty good. The biggest halibut was 45pounds and the least was about 35 pounds they were just the right size to eat. There was 2 Kings caught that trip. 45lb. and 15lb. I snaged one I didn't see it I was reeling it in. but the guide said it was around 100lb. But he snaped my line. and got away. Maybe I will have better luck next time.
