Opinions on Barnes Triple Shock Projectiles on Big Game .

Welcome some feedback on Barnes Triple Shocks.

Currently I'm using Nosler Partitions in 7mm SAUM
140 Gr. For use on Mid-large size game. (Red Stag, Tahr, Chamois, Rams, Goats, Bear, Ibexetc.)
Toying with the idea of going to Barnes Triple shock in 160 gr, to give a little more punch on the bigger animals e.g. Elk.
Interested in your experience with these projectiles.

A lot of my shooting is at Mid-long range (e.g. 250-350 yards.)

My nephew used the Barnes 115 gr bullet to harvest a nice cow elk last year with a 25-06.He shot her right behind the shoulder @ 125 yds and the bullet punched straigh through.
No complaints here.

look around on here for some of my posts about the TSXs. IMHO they are THE finest big game bullet bar none!

Don't dismiss your present 140 weight, the TSXs will typically out penetrate heavier bullets of other makes. I would MUCH rather have 140 TSXs for elk than a 160 Nosler Part,

I agree with using the 140 gr tsx's.They will give you a flat trajectory and will still out penetrate most bullet designs in much heavier weights.

I suggest upgrading to the 160-gr. AccuBond or Partitions.

Have now been using these bullets for 18 months in 4 different calibers.
Must say I am impressed with both accuracy and the way they have held together. Previously a Nosler partition fan, which are good also.

Partitions are good and have been a long time standby of mine; however, I now use almost exclusively Barnes TSX.

They suck!:D

I like tracking. I prefer lightly constructed bullets intended for varmints for my big game hunting. That way I get very limited or no penetration. Using this method My elk of a lifetime is sure to head for heavy cover and likely be lost.

Okay so I suck at sarcasm.

Here is a recovered 168grain TSX from a 6X6 bull I took in 04 with my 300WSM. The recovered weight was 167 grains and I plucked the bullet from the far side shoulder of the bull from a quatering away 250 yard shot.

These bullets perform as advertised.

I thought it was pretty good.
It is some folks default, just because they don't know better, especially on "larger-than-deer-sized-game."
