RE: elk Taxidermy?
I know this thread has fallen by the wayside a bit. But I'll revisit it since I've come out of the dark ages and learned to upload pics.
This Bull was taken during 1st rifle on aneither sex tag. I am certainly more interested in putting meat in the freezer than horns on the wall. But I knew he was there andhad a SURE shot at a nice cow that was with another cow and a spike................. harem???mmmmmmmmmI let out a lite bugle and he came a runnin' in!!!!! Prone shot ,hard uphill .300short w /a 180grn Accu-bond..................Lights OUT!! I've been hunting for what will be my coming 6th season ( Got a late start) and have been fortunate enough to take 3 cows (Elk) 1deer and a nice bull that will be with me forever!!!!! Bill |

NICE ANIMAL Glob!!!
What is that other mount, to the left, over the speaker? |
RE: elk Taxidermy?
I have been fortunate enough to take 3 nice elk on public land in Colorado, and had 2 mounted. One with mouth closed and the other with mouth open and the lower jaw teeth do show as well as his bugle ivories on his upper jaw. The wife wanted it mounted with his mouth open until I got it home from the taxidermist. She hates it with his mouth open, I like it, its different.

RE: elk Taxidermy?
Hey CE,
Well that's a set of Elk antler's. small4x5. Almost could mistake them for a Mulie. He was a winter kill that we found up on a ranch I worked on a couple of years ago. The poor guy had fallen through the ice at a lakeon the ranch and couldn't get out. He was shoulder high and frozen into to the ice when we found him (dead). Had to wait til spring to pull him out. I just mounted the skull cap with hair attatched. He was pretty rank. But that's nature at work. |
