ramps to load atv
 

I'm thinking about buying a set of ramps to put my fourwheeler in the back of my truck. I've been hauling it on my 6x10 trailer, but was thinking it would help save on gas. I've got a honda recon so it should fit in the back of my silverado 1500hd. How many of ya'll put your atv in back of truck instead of towing trailer?

I do. It made me nervous (the incline) riding it into the back of my F-150, so I went down to the Honda store and bought a longer ramp.

How long are your ramps? I found some at tractor supply that's 71" long.

i know 3 people now that have died doing this......2 of the guys been doin it their whole life....ya need a kit for doin this..not just ramps

What kind of kit? Don't know if I've ever seen one of these.

I have a Bombardier Quest 650. Between the bike, me, the winch, plow mount and box on it...the rig is pushing 1,300 pounds.

I have been loading it in my truck since 2003 w/ no problem. I have a set of the tri-fold ramps. They're great.

It's steep, but if you just hook them to your tailgate...then you'll be fine. As long as they're strong enough and they don't slide out, it's a snap.

I've been around ramps/pickups all my life. I've probably loaded over 1,000 personally and seen many, many more than that. I've never even seen someone injured doing this...let alone being killed. I would think that a serious mistake or equipment failure would have to take place for that to happen.

My ramp measures about 78". Like the previous post stated, hook it to the truck and cinch it tight. I have a 4x4 and it seems the back ends of the newer Fords are higher than they used to be, so the old ramps just made me nervous.

Picked up a set from Sportsmanguide.com and they work great. Ran about $230 and it was the best investment I've made. Hated lugging the trailer around when I brought the ATV into the shop for repairs or service. Now it's a snap with the ramps.
Have a Polaris Sportsman 500 and a Honda Foreman 500 that load very easy into my Nissan Titan.
Pick up a set...you'll be glad you did!

You dont need ramps. Just a good running start but you do need to stick the landing.

I load my polaris into my f150 on ramps...but the key is to strap them to the the truck so they can't kick out, that is one way people get hurt...the other is don't goose the throttle....just nice and steady up the ramp because hammering on it if you feel it is slipping or something might cause the four wheeler to tip backwards...happened recently to a guy my dad knows and he died. good luck...be safe and you will be fine.
