One for Team 4.

Squirrel season opened this morning. They've really changed their traveling habits since the spring season. However, I started hearing the distinctive sound of a squirrel munching on something nearby. As I approached, a gray squirrel fled past me, too quickly to get a shot at him. It was apparent where he had been eating. There were two walnut trees barely thirty feet apart. While I waited under one, a fox squirrel began leaping toward me. I missed him the first time, and he started chattering loudly while leaping into the walnut tree. It was only when he had moved to the trunk ten feet directly above me that I had another opportunity. I hit him between his eyes, slightly closer to his left eye, and quickly stepped back as he fell. Still got hit with a few drops of blood.



I only saw one other squirrel, but I at least I've found a good place to set up for future hunts.

Tn that is a nice looking squirrel getter.
I have a Government Mark 2 Target but it wasn't drilled for a scope.
I got a scope for I just haven't put it on yet.
Maybe someday.

Four more for team two. Seen more pawpaws today than I have in twenty years, will go back in a couple weeks and pick me a mess.

It won't be long before October 16.
I got some new squirrel medicine for them.

I pulled muscle in my left knee, I hope to be ready by October 16th

Just 31 more days to wait.

Tomorrow is opening day. The forecast is for a seasonable 81 degrees. I'm really hoping to get out tomorrow afternoon.

29 days to go and counting.

I went out from 5 until maybe 7:15 Friday evening and didn't see a single squirrel. And for about 20 minutes Saturday evening until the mosquitoes started to drive me crazy. When I got home yesterday the first thing I did was order a Thermacell.

My Siberian husky had a fox squirrel yesterday. Can I add him to my team? :D

He's got me beat so far this year. Hoping to get out Tuesday and Thursday this week. With the step son. So we'll see how still a 4 year old can sit.

Similar situation around here Bocajnala. The weather was on the cool side the first two weeks of September, but since squirrel season opened on the 15th it's been summer-like.

Less so today. I went out on public land again. A really nice spot where a woodlot with lots of big oaks is surrounded by corn on 3 sides. Well I only saw 1 squirrel, and he barked at me for a good 5 minutes. Weird angle though, and I was sure if I moved he'd bolt.

In the end it's good that I didn't shoot, because a doe family group walked right in front of me shortly after. 1 adult, 1 yearling, 2 fawns. They didn't smell me, but I bumped the younger 3 on the field edge on the walk out. Hopefully they have short memories because I want to go back next week with my crossbow.

I suck. Went on 3 short hunts so far this season, and 3 big misses with my spring piston air rifle :(

Oh well, at least there is some acorns on the forest floor this year. Thank God I'm on LONGHUNTERs team

Finally got out this week, still hot here, but cool mornings. I hunted thursday an today till 1130am. Took four fox squirrels home thursday and two today, different farm woods.

Now to take my limit (6) of grays to go with the fox squirrels and I'm done for awhile. Two makes a mess for me to eat at one time.

Archery deer season open Oct 7th and I know where a 7 point is waiting for me....

Had an interesting morning of hunting. Missed a squirrel, killed this one, then hit another one that ran off, fell from a tree, and vanished into some brush. At least I found this one.

Tried to film it with my GoPro, but its battery apparently didn't charge correctly last night.

Four more this morning
 

Three of them were within a span of about 15 minutes between two oaks. One kept darting from one side of the tree to the other to look at me before I put a bullet in his ear. While loading more rounds in my magazine, I spotted another one watching me from the same spot as where I first saw the previous one. It one took two hits to the head and one to the neck before it let go of the tree. The last one scampered my direction across a branch in the other oak tree. I adjusted my aim and hit him when he stopped to look at me.

I finally got one, a young male gray. I tightened my stock screws on my pellet gun, that could have been the reason I have been missing lately. This site won't let me post pics until I have 10 posts??? I thought I did but guess not.

I don't know. I got it from my grandfather after his passing.

I would lose my damn mind if I had to wait till october for squirrel season. When does yours close.

PA opens OCT 14th this year and runs until Feb 28th...

There's really no reason it can't be longer... but thats how it is.

The temps are to hot to hunt, the lows in the 70's and highs in the lower 80's :devil:
Plus all the leaves are still on the trees.
They will fall off in time.
