Got out yesterday morning looking to get just fox squirrels with the .17. Seen about 3 and got one big male. Found a set of trees with at least 15 greys in it but decided not to shoot any, just sat and watched. Gonna take my nephew to that spot this weekend.

In my neck of the wood, there are a few black squirrel, which is a color variation of a gray squirrel. Got about 4 black squirrel so far in my two years of hunting squirrel. There is a genetic variation in the gene pool of gray squirrels. I am guessing that there is one black for every 40 grays out there in my area. Some very localized area has 1 black for every 10 grays.

Never killed a black squirrel put my dad has killed about 5 black Fox squirrels. They seem more conan then ever. Biologist have stated that the first reported animal lewis and Clark recorded was a black squirrel. They stated most squirrels were black back then.

Got 4 in the AM and 1 in the PM. 5 for me. Good to see so many squirrels being entered this year. I have been working too many hours to get out as much as I'd like to. But such is life. Keep it up everyone!
