Thanks Mottz!, I will be working the night shift for the next 3 nights and trying to hunt each morning. The wife is trying to give me other plans but I explained turkey season is turkey season and I will be home each afternoon.. LOL I have until the end of may as well as our last day to hunt is June first..
Good Luck to everyone still out there hunting them. |
Yesterday was the last day to turkey hunt in NC.
So my season is over for this year. It just wouldn't work for me this year, I hope everyone else has better luck than me for the rest of your season. |
Sorry to hear no luck Jrbsr, next season is only 11 short months away!
Phil, glad to hear you were able to help those people out and get em out of there safely.whats your weather doin up there? Turned to crap here! Snow this mornin!windy and upper 30s today. Luckily my buddy brought me 3 big fat lake trout yesterday so a few beers and watching the smoker looks like a good way to kill the day to me! |
I am sorry to hear about your luck as well jrbsr.. Did you happen to get your truck running? I hope so and I will be trying to bust a cap on a bird or 2 until the season runs out unless I have some better luck soon.
Our weather is in the form of rain right now in the mid 50s to low 60s during the day. We have had some 70 degree weather as well here. Although we have had a few mornings this past week in the upper 20s. But, no snow and I hope that stuff stays away until next winter and even then it can stay away IMO. The next 3 days sunny in the upper 60s and then some more rain again.. At least that is what the weather man says.. LOL Could you pm me with what you use for a brime on the lakers your smoking? I catch a few lakers each year normally.. Thanks. |
Keep at it Phil and Mottz.
It is rough since season is over, so hearing your stories and updates eases the pain. Any one else still hunting? John |

Still no turkey for me! I woke up yesterday to rain and wind and went out anyways. I had an hrs drive and got in the woods about 5am, the rain started letting up so I hiked up a mountain, ironically called mt. tom. The rain pretty much stopped and I was glad I decided to go, because it turned out a lot nicer than I thought it would. I did some calling for a few hrs and moved to a few different locations but no turkeys in sight or any gobbling to be heard. Todays hunt was a little better, I decide to go to a spot that I knew had turkeys but I was afraid it had been hunted hard. My fiance and I arrived about 4:45 and walked up in to where I thought would be a good place to stop and wait for the woods to wake up. I know more than said with the first hoot of an owl the turkeys should start gobbling if they are in the area. With that said an owl hooted off in the distance and three turkeys started gobbling as well. I whispered to Annie we need to move closer, so off up the hill we go to the tip of a wooded island in the center of a field. I set a few decoys out and we get settled in to position. We listened to the gobbling for a few mins as we were waiting for it to get a little lighter, then I started calling to them and they all fired right back. I'm like great this should be easy they weren't too far away and they seemed to be responding good. Well long story short they never did come in and they kept gobbling until 7am They sounded like they were starting to get further away and I thought maybe even across the road. So I decided that we should go back to the car and maybe go down the road to a different spot and see if we can locate where they went. That's when I seen that we had some other hunters in the woods, just down the road was two trucks and they were probably calling the same birds. It was a fun weekend of hunting and it was great to finally hear them gobbling. Now it's just a matter of time! Will I have enough time to get the job done? Or will I run out of time? lol
Goodluck to those still hunting! |

Awesome deal Snapper! I always wanted to do an out of state hunt, maybe someday. Good luck to ya!
Just curious, how did ya go about it? Why W.v.? Do ya know someone with some prop to hunt or what? Don't mean to get too personal, but what would something like that cost? P.m. Me if ya like, or not. Either way hope it works out for ya! |
