Best hunting airgun?
 

I currently have a Gamo Hornet Maxxim that shoots 1300 fps.
I am considering getting a .22 caliber air rifle for target and hunting.
I would appreciate any recommendations, as well as pros/cons.

Accurate, Light and Deadly.

If you want a rifle that is accurate and one that doesn't need a compressor the Air Arms TX200 is the #1 spring/gas piston rifle made. But the first thing you need to get rid of the idea that speed makes the gun. The TX200 is only a 670 fps gun. You really don't need blistering speed for either accuracy or hunting power. I kill a lot of Rock Chucks from 40 to 70 yards. The gun is capable of head shots out as far as you personally can shoot. The Scope is a Vortex Crossfire II 6-18x44 AO.

What about the Umarex Hammer. Just saw some video's of people hunting hogs and deer with it. 50 caliber. I think it is an $800.00 air gun!

That's an impressive write-up and field test idahoron. I can see the reliability and utility of hunting with an air rifle that doesn't need a compressor or tank of air. Out of curiosity, how much further do you think head shots would be doable if you had some kind of field rest or bipod. This may be a new turkey airgun.

WIth my shooting sticks I have made head shots out to 70 yards many times. Many, many times.

I forgot to ask. What brand and weight pellets are you using? Does it prefer any specific brand?

I am using the H&N FTT 14.66 gr. They are 5.53mm
