Default RE: gun for yotes/fox

.22 Mag.

I plan on getting one myself pretty soon to use at night here in Michigan. I have a .22 LR, .17 HMR, and 12 ga. shooting 3 1/2" #2 Hevi-Shot out of a Super Full Turkey Choke but I "really, really" need a .22 Mag. Basically, I just have a bug for a new gun and was thinking about getting a NEF Sportster .22 Mag equipped with a 3-9 X 40 Mueller Red Dot to go on top of it. We partner up at night here so one person will be carrying the 12 ga. while the other carries the .22 Mag.

In any event, if you're forced into using rimfires like we are at night here in Michigan then, in my opinion only, a .22 Mag is the way to go. As with almost anything though there's tradeoffs with any decision. In this case I think the little bit of accuracy given up by the .22 Mag in relation to the .17 HMR at 50-100 yard ranges is a good trade with the little bit more power the .22 Mag has over the .17 HMR at the same yardages.
