I usually wax the string before putting it on. Get as much in as possible and then wipe off excess off after installing it. Usually before the season, I'll take it off again and do the same. If needed I'll put some on during the season, but not much.
I've been doing the same , I use Hunter Specialities bowstring wax . It's kinda sticky and lasts a long time .
